Plug requirements at a glance

Our High Heat Plugs support compliance with the new safety standards by providing reliable radial and axial sealing of sheet metal at temperatures up to 650°C for up to 10 minutes. They also offer full flexibility for the assembly process; they can be easily assembled by hand but are also robust enough for automation. Batteries must not catch fire for
5 minutes after thermal runaway of a battery cell.
Generally, the driver of an e-vehicle should have 5 minutes to exit the car in such an event. No Fire 5 minutes Directive European OEMs have the following requirements or the connections between the battery and the passenger compartment.

The plug is mounted in a sheet metal and vertically placed in front of a hot air gun before applied with 650°C for at least 10 minutes. Test conditions ITW Global Fasteners / High Heat Plugs Test method developed in cooperation with TÜV Rheinland: close • Plug is exposed to hot air at 30 mm distance
• Constant temperature profile during the test run
• Temperature can be monitored with additional temperature sensors
• Completely visible and accessible during the test
• Results exactly reproducible
Sealing The sealing was tested with a 500 mm water column under various conditions: ITW Global Fasteners / High Heat Plugs close • Head and foot loading
• After climate change test
• After high temperature load (10 min. with 650°C)
Flexible Easy manual mounting: ITW Global Fasteners / High Heat Plugs close Outstanding automation capability due to: • Mounting force of <80N
• Disassembly force of >600N
• Use of a compact setting application head
• Flat surface for vacuum grippers
• Stiff structure due to glass fiber content
• Circumferential/flat ring on the bottom
